your local library + my rerelease pub week = đź’š

header.jpg

Welcome to Mommy’s El Camino.

A flyer with text white text on a black background: Friday, April 25th at Stories Books & Cafe in L.A. 6pm-8pm, a conversation with Wendy C. Ortiz and Myriam Gurba on the re-release of Excavation, Hollywood Notebook, and Bruja from Northwestern University Press. On the bottom are the spines of the three books.
If you’re in L.A. on Fri. 4/25, join us.

It’s the week of my books being re-released into the world from Northwestern University Press.

Here’s my ask: copy and paste the ISBN numbers below into the field on the webpage of your local library’s book purchase request form. In other words: ask your local library to stock my books. As an example, here’s the Los Angeles Public Library’s “Suggest A Purchase” page. (If you can request e-books, the ISBNs for those are also listed on the Northwestern University Press website.)

Excavation: 9780810148604

Hollywood Notebook: 9780810148581

Bruja: 9780810148567

And, like, of course I care about people buying the books. Though the official publication date is Tuesday, April 15th, there have been reported sightings at Skylight Books in Los Angeles and Powell’s Books in Portland.

a photo of a bookshelf at Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon. Bruja, Hollywood Notebook, and Excavation book covers are facing out, and there's a handwritten shelf card that reads: Tried and True. Oooh! Check out these underground classics by Wendy C. Ortiz just reissued by Northwestern University Press

You know I love a shot of the books on your bed, in your bath, in your beyond, so do send those to me on instagram.

If you’re not in Los Angeles, ask your local bookstore to stock the book and buy it from them! There’s also Bookshop.org.

If you’re in Los Angeles, I hope you’ll join me and Myriam Gurba at Stories Books on Friday, April 25th from 6pm-8pm. Cake. A little convo, a little mingle.

Special offer: If you are someone currently going through your first Saturn return, reply to this email first for a free copy of Hollywood Notebook.

Take good care, everyone. Thanks for your time, and thanks for helping me release these books into the world once again.
