Welcome to the Sunday post.

my view from the last 5 days, except this one with full moon, 6/22/24

I write to you from bed, where I’ve been since Wednesday when I took over the room for my personal covid quarantine headquarters. I was supposed to get on a plane on Thursday and arrive home today; instead I’ve had five solid days of rest. This is my first time with covid and I’m heeding all the advice from those close and far about prioritizing rest through this experience.

I suspect that my dog and my dog alone enjoy the fact that I am in bed all day and night every damn day except for when we decamp to the tv room, a process that involves too many things to transport, sanitize, etc. upon arriving or leaving that once I’m there I try to stay there for hours. With the dog.

I broke my June absence from social media yesterday purely out of going bonkers in my sickbed. I popped onto instagram to share good news I’d been holding since January, an experience that I’d describe as edifying. I’ll probably write more about that later.

In April 2025, Northwestern University Press will release reprints of all three of my books: Excavation: A Memoir, Hollywood Notebook, and Bruja. This fills me with a tremendous amount of feelings! For now, I hope prior readers of my books will look forward to the new editions (new covers?!), and I’m excited for the books to keep finding their way to new readers. That’s all from my covid bed for now. Take good care ✌🏽

Hoping you feel better soon and have a full recovery. And congratulations on the new editions. I might just have a reason to go to AWP LA now. β€οΈπŸ’
